The Woman in the Mirror
Valerie Clark
Four years old looking in the mirror
Her love for me was like no other
The old black and white may not last forever
But forever is the love of a mother
Mom taught me the difference between wrong and right
But the greatest gift she gave me were my wings of flight.
The woman in the mirror that I see
Is a little bit of mom and a whole lot of me
Off to college on a crisp fall day
She said, “Time has come to find your way.”
“I have taught you everything I could.”
I know you so well, and you’ll do as you should
Mom taught me the difference between wrong and right
But the greatest gift she gave me were my wings of flight.
The woman in the mirror that I see
Is a little bit of mom and a whole lot of me
She’s gone and I reflect on those years
She encouraged me through dreams and tears
Told me, “You can be anything you want to be.”
It was the thing that always set me free.
Mom taught me the difference between wrong and right
But the greatest gift she gave me were my wings of flight.
The woman in the mirror that I see
Is a little bit of mom and a whole lot of me
Days would come and many years would go
Still her love for me I’d always know
The reflection of her heart and her soul
The woman in the mirror that I see
Is a little bit of mom and a whole lot of me
